I'm formatting (fat32) a 128GB USB drive in MS-DOS (Windows 10) and it's going to take hours, by the look of it. There are apps that can, apparently, do it in seconds.

Is there any way I can abort/cancel the process without corrupting the drive?

If its a blank drive should be able to cancel/abort it at any time - you might need to use drive management to remove the partition and set the drive back to its default state before doing a new format however (though most tools can handle that).
