Cancel a mobile contract Q?

I'm just posting here on the off chance anyone here will know about mobile contracts.

I set up a 12 month mobile contract with O2 in autumn last year. Then in Jan this year I decided pretty much out of the blue to expatriate, now I live and work in Prague quite happily.
I contacted O2 to find out about the posibility of cancelling my contract as I can't really use my phone here now because with roaming charges it's not cost effective. They obviously replied saying that if I wanted to cancel I'm liable for the remainder of the contract which is fair enough but i'm just wondering if there are any get out clauses for mobile contracts due to the fact that I no longer live in the UK?

I know I could just cancel my DD but then if in the future I want to go back home I don't want to have any debts or a bad credit rating etc, plus I'd rather do things by the book.

It's not the end of the world if I can't get out of it as I can still comfortably pay it and am happy to do that, it would just be good if I could find a get out clause that will save me money ;) I've already sent my local CAB back home an email and was just hoping someone here may know something.

edit: completely forgot there was a mobile forum here :o

I had a similar problem but there is no way you can get out of it, it's written into your contract. You will have to pay it off.....alternatively you could switch to the lowest price plan so you wouldn't be paying off a lot until the end of your contract.

That's what I am planning to to but I can't downgrade within the first 6 months of my contract so i'm just waiting to do that :)

Cheers anyway guys, I appreciate the help :)
