With the recent price increase that BT are doing, I am thinking of cancelling my TV subscription I have with them as I rarely watch TV and most of the channels I do watch, are on freeview.

The only issue is that I would like the ability to record shows. Would I be able to use the BT YouView+ box or would I need a separate youview/freeview box? I imagine the BT one has their software loaded to it that can't be removed to be used without BT TV.

Alternatively, as I have Samsung Smart TV, can I use that with an external HDD attached to record shows to?

You can still record on the BT Youview box the freeview channels just none of the BT stuff will work including internet channels etc.

Another question. As I get my TV and broadband in one package, can I use the price increase to just cancel the TV or do I have to cancel it all?

Not sure on your latest question but I followed the same idea as you when I cancelled my Virgin TV subscription. I can timeshift using the TV alone after plugging in a USB drive but haven't recorded yet. Not sure how much I can record with 64GB lol, probably not a lot!

Yes you can use the price increase to cancel your TV. They said on BBC this morning. Needs to be within 30 days of price increase notice. Not sure when the official "30 days" starts but is definitely a way to get out of a contract.

Along with the cries of poor BT losing profit this year yet still earning £100 a second profit.
