So cancelled Xbox One pre order,
Now to buy some new gear instead. Want to play Bf4 and Titanfall when released. What Graphics card to go for? and a new PSU.

Currently got a GT640, so most will be a big step up.

i5 2500k 3.30ghz
8gb ram
Win 7 64 bit
got on 120gb SSD with OS
500gb HD with my games on
Generic PSU I believe its 500w

Budget is around £400-£500

Cheers guys

The 780Ti was announced yesterday. you cant buy it yet buddy.

What motherboard do you have?
Also what powersupply wattage and brand?

on other days i might say get a 780 but with 290X coming it may be a slight waste of money. Personally id hold off for a 290x or something similar. Sounds like you got a good base for a rig to me.

there's MSI 280X on offer, so that + some nice cooler so you can OC that 2500K.

Seasonic G 550W will be fine.

you'll be looking at around £350 for GPU, PSU and cooler.

agreed. although you could go for something fancy like a h100i if you like that kind of thing, but a nice air cooler will be sufficient.

Go for XFX, corsair Seasonic on the PSU. around 500 will be fine

What monitor do you have OP??

Would mind explaining your choices here?
With a generic PSU and a non overclocked k series, the money can be much better spent elsewhere.

We already know that an i5 does not cut it in BF4, an i7 min would be the recommended. While the 2500k overclocked is a great chip (mine is), it's being worn down by new games, advances in software, limiting it's life expectancy with new releases.

A PSU would be good idea if he is not sure of it's brand.

You could get a better cooler than the 212, K2, D14 or Phanteks would be better. Overclocking that 2500k to 4.5-4.7 would give you a nice boost, but limitations may arise.

PSU wise, I'd go for XFX, Seasonic, Corsair AX Series, Antec, Silverstone, Enermax and BeQuiet.

edit:

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming Edition OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £229.99
1 x Antec High Current Pro 750W Modular '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply £129.95
1 x Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler £59.99
Total : £431.93 (includes shipping : £10.00).

PSU will allow Sli/xFire and make sure your RAM is low profile enough to fit under the cooler. This cooler should allow a good 4.5ghz+ overclock.
Do you have a 1080p screen?
