Cancelling an order before it arrives

Placed an order over the phone with a local company. Item was out of stock, they didn't give a date when it would be delivered its taking ages
Should I be free to cancel and get a refund no hassle?
 
Not getting very far in the phone, waiting on a manager to call back...
Would an email be enough to cancel?
I can go in to see them but it's not ideal
No wonder everyone uses Amazon!

as said above, it's easy, don't let them try and make it more difficulty.

phone up, quote order number tell them you want to cancel. if that start any guff just advise that you will refuse delivery if they despatch.......

now getting them to refund you in a timely fashion might be more trying exercise
 
I phoned again, told the person I spoke to just to cancel it but still saying the manager will need to phone back. Still no call.

They have s website, wish I'd just ordered it online now!
