Not sure which was the place to put this but opted for here:)

i'm thinking of changing TV , land line and BB to BT from Sky. I've read the BT FAQ and it all seems easy.

In the real world , I've given 30 day notice on my Tv package but how much notice do I have to give Sky to cancel my phone and BB ?

Bt website says I don't even have to contact sky? I really don't want the products to overlap and end up paying a double for a week or so.

Any help would be great

For landline and broadband BT will take care of that and as soon as the line has been moved to BT Sky will terminate your contract for those, for the TV you will probably have to contact Sky and cancel that yourself.

As above, ask BT to take over your service and they will sort it all. They'll contact Sky to tell them a new provider is taking over both your talk and broadband service. Sky will send you a letter to make sure you're aware that this is happening and you're OK with it. Other than that you will/should only be without service for an hour or so on the date of change. You won't be charged for both services at any point unless something goes wrong.

@MissChief
Been thinking of jumping ship from Sky to Plusnet for a while now,
only been putting it off due to (I thought)having to phone Sky and go through all the hoops to Indian call centres :(
My hearing is poor and have trouble understanding the dialect too

Just to clarify I can just set up and order with ,say,Plusnet and they will do all the swapping over of services.I have/want phone and BB?
Am on LLU if that makes any difference with Sky?

Sorry for the thread hijack :)

You simply ask your new provider to take over your services, no contact with Sky needed. You can either supply your chosen new provider with your telephone number if you want to keep it or ask them for a new number. You shouldn't need to contact Sky at all. However, if you do want to contact sky to see what offers you can get to stay with them for talk and BB, all retentions staff are UK based. We do have Indian call centres but they mainly deal with TV tech and a couple of back office roles. A few hundred staff compared to thousands in the UK. My own place of work has over 3,000 staff on various shifts across all the buildings at my site. Broadband and talk tech for example is all UK based.

Many thanks for that info :)
I was under the impression that it was all Indian based
Not in a rush but nice to know my options :)

Just to give a positive view from a long standing Sky customer. I have had no issues with Sky's service over the 4 years I've been with them.

This thought was re-enforced after having to call TalkTalk (twice!) today for my parent's - absolute god awful customer support! Script monkeys that do not know how to deviate away from the norm, or how to resolve (what you think) are basic issues...

I've had the Sky Fibre Pro live for nearly a year now, it's not skipped a beat once. Sync rate not changed since going live (68 Mbps), G.INP enabled, low pings (10-12ms), 72 days uptime on the modem (that's because I unplugged it and had a move round)...

You don't have to worry as the process is the same with everything being done automatically without you having to contact sky (I managed to move a line from sky to plusnet without having to contact sky).

All that will happen is that sky will shut down the line at around three in the morning on the day the switchover is due to occur, and will go live with plusnet later on that day (if you're going for fibre and didn't have it with sky then the internet should be the first to come on since you'll have an OR engineer come over to do work on the phone socket and leave a modem since the equipment provided by plusnet doesn't include a VDSL modem, but if you did have fibre with sky and had the newer hub then you'll need to make sure that you get a BTOR engineer appointment since as I already mentioned the equipment provided by plusnet doesn't have a built in VDSL modem).

i was thinking of cancelling bt and goin to sky :S

I've done that, but on with the TV aspect. Still got BT for the phone and Internet.

BT TV is very poor, reliability sucks big time. Customer services are good though, seeing as I was on the phone to them at least 2-3 times a week.

I moved to Sky and never looked back.

No fibre to my cab.unlikely to be upgraded any way.cab is 2 miles from exchange down a narrow country lane
I am a further 2 miles from the cab too :(
Sky have/are mostly ok max of 3 meg on a good day
Just that plusnet are offering a large reduction in cost for switching

I have just switched to Plusnet from BT as their 76MB fibre is £10 a month cheaper. Plus the line rental is £1 a month cheaper.

I left Sky 2 years ago and went over to BT, I personally would never go back to Sky, even if there service was free I wouldn't use it. I found the connection shocking and customer service quite bad.
