cannon 35mm lens

if I moved nearer my subject so the equivalent distance was per a 50mm lens would it be the same looking size/distance shot.

the reason i ask is i have a 50mm and am considering a 35 mm but if its just a case of walking a bit further back with the 50mm i guess it would save me buying it?

Short answer is no.

i see,hmmm is this because the lens size is different even though the actual distance would be the same?

if so then for variety then a 35 mm on my crop would maybe be different enough.

the actual distance is not the same.. though

with a 35mm you have to move closer than when using a 50mm

Crop or not, stay in the same spot, put on a 35 and then 50 you'll see different things.

If you step back from the 50 to see something "similar" to the 35, you are still not getting the same, not completely. The ANGLE or what is call the field of vision is different.
