I came across this last night, or it appeared on the facebook.

I initially thought it sounded great, and obviously fond memories of the car film are ingrained. Then I got to wondering how many bikers there'd be, how many it needs to turn into a bunch of suicidal idiots (not many I think is pretty clear to most of us).

Then I read this review from 2006. Maybe I'm old before my time but it sounded back then pretty mental. Mental in a bad way. At first I felt bad at the police harassment, but then I realised why with the - just witnessed by one guy - red light antics.

This year it's in Europe somewhere again, and I believe there are still places, and still £2,000 each.

Thoughts?

More than anything it's made me look for an iPad app I can plot my own route on!

£2k for the entrance fee and if you're there to win you'd probably want to keep another 2k handy for paying fines or retrieving your bike after its been impounded. They've started transferring fines across Europe now for fixed camera's, so maybe another £1-2k for that. Have they started doing it for points on licenses yet? I'd check that before you go. Oh, you'd also want good bike and medical insurance.

I'd be tempted to volunteer as a race marshal, or just ride the route for fun. But I wouldn't take part in it. I can't afford to empty my bank account for the German police like that.
