Gonna have my 2500k for a lot longer than I thought. Hope AMD catches up in this time and gets the prices more competitive again.

And Intel does not want to provide affordable quad cores to avoid conflict with the high priced server sales...

instead they almost perversely now sell a , relatively, affordable hex core in the guise of the 5820k whilst Skylake quad core I7 pricing may yet hit 400 notes in the UK!

Sad indeed. I guess they can see AMD floundering so there's no need to push themselves. Future £500 mainstream i7s it is then...

Why would people go for 5820k when broadwell-e is around the corner? IF your computer isn't dying, why would you be happy with less performance in games & pricier motherboards than skylake simply because Moar Corez? Wait for broadwell-e, it has the important die shrink that you want. Should be priced similarly to haswell-e too.

No surprise, with no competition whats the point in rushing things out?

On another note, my 4790K is runs everything I need and I havent bothered to overclock it. My CPU has years to go before it becomes slow. I like CPU releases now compare to the late 90's, early 2000's.

Sticking with shop pricing here its now cheaper to buy a 5820k than a 6700k even with comparable motherboards. Skylake may give you a few extra 100mhz overclocked and a marginal ipc improvement (that you wont benefit from typically in gaming) but z170 is an inferior platform with less longevity I would suggest even given that it was released much later. As for waiting for broadwell -e well it going to likely be about 5 months till wee see it and you can probably expect it to come with a new chip 14nm price premium. Would not be surprised at all to see the likely entry level six core, 28 pci-e lane 6820k (assuming they call it that) at over £400 on release with the next two chips coming in at around £650 and £1000 respectively. 14nm has been a very expensive node for customers so far with not much improvement over the last gen to show foe it. Might be just as well to bag yourself a great value for money 5820k now as it looks like pricing for Intel cpu's is on the rise..... Have you seen the price now for the 6700k.... £390....just bonkers

Seen it for £320 when looking around but wasn't the 6700K below or just over £300 on release?

Im not suprised with intel. Die shrinks will be getting harder and harder now.

Why yes, that's just what I imagined ;)

This is something to be somewhat thankful for. My 2700K lasted me over three years, and I'd still be using it now had my Z68 board not died. The years around the turn of the century were soul destroying, CPUs and GPUs were close to obsolete in 6-12 months.

There's always something around the corner. Anyone who does buy in to X99 still has the Broadwell-E option open to them in the future. I firmly believe the additional 2-4 cores X99 offers will be of more benefit in the long run than another 10% IPC.

I think the biggest problem is that they can't rely on die shrinks anymore to give them significant performance boosts, going from 22nm to 14nm hasn't done much! In the desktop space anyway, not sure why anyone thinks going from 14nm Skylake to a 10nm die shrink of Skylake (CanonLake) is going to give them a reason to upgrade lol

Not to mention CPUs have been more than powerful enough for the vast majority of peoples needs, hell most do on a phone or tablet what they would have done on a computer lol

Delayed as the engineers were too busy playing ping pong. Might as well with the lack of fight amd is giving :(

What the hell is going on with Skylake i7 prices?

Last time I looked a few weeks ago it was £320, and I thought that was taking the p quite frankly.

There has been no real change in exchange rates either.

It's much cheaper elsewhere, but here at OCUK it's £60 to £70 more?

Why is that OCUK?

This is one of the many reasons why I don't buy from here any more.
