cannot access hard drive

recently my external hard drive has started to fail. when i plug it into my computer (vista x86) via usb, my computer cannot access it. it shows up in My Computer, but just shows a drive icon and no bar to show size/how much space is left. When i right-click on it, it freezes my computer, and only un-freezes when i unplug the drive. i have tried to reformat it by CMD: forgmat g:. but nothing happens.

any ideas on how to get it to work? i dont mind losing the data, luckily i recently bought a new internal drive (phewww)

Try it in admin tools > computer managment > disk managment.

Well, spelling "format" wrong is probablly not helping you much
