Got a Synology DS 211.

1. The above is hardwired to an Aztech 605ew wireless adsl router
2. The Aztech is hardwired to an Apple Airport Extreme wireless router
3. 2 PCs are wireless connected to the Apple Airport Extreme for internet access etc

I can see the NAS device on each PC and also log in through the control panel...however I cannot map the network drives on the Synology assistant as it always gives me a Network Path Not Found 53 error...#

furthermore i can't seem to get the EZ-internet setup to work...it keeps on saying host name in use, so when i select a different host or domain name it says that username in use and this is a vicious cycle!

i have also tried connecting wireless to the Aztech router itself (rather than the Airport) but get the same results...

also tried turning off windows firewall but no difference...

Last but not least, my PlayonHD can see my Synology Diskstation under its network menu...when I click on it to log on with my username/password, it keeps on saying login failed!

anyone know what the issue is?

driving me nuts!

thanks:D

not sure how to do that... i have set the synology for auto DHCP...

if I go to Router settings under the Synology Control Panel, it says to manually assign statis IP etc...

I get an option for Server name, DNS Server and Default Gateway... on the next tab (network interface) I get an option for IP address, subnet mask and Jumbo frame...

how do I know what values to assign?

under the NAS control panel in the domain/workgroup tab I have workgroup selected as default...

should this be set to workgroup or domain? If the latter, what domain name and DNS server do I use?

one of the PCs on my network is part of the Windows 7 homegroup and the other is not part of any homegroup...

Try changing the last number of the DS211j ip address i.e 192.168.0.4 to 192.168.0.5 but don't pick a used number.

try mapping \\192.168.1.8\share name where share name is the name of your share.........that will tell you if it is a dns issue or not i.e. if \\diskstation\sharename is not working

thanks, ok..read the above links.. the issue is not with windows 7 shared folders as I am trying to map the shared folders on my Synology..

I just recently changed the firewalls setting on my Synology where I checked the 'allow all' box for if 'rules do not match'... I could them map a folder using the Synology Assistant...however, next time round it said that 'no response from system' ... i then did a search for the NAS using the Synology Assistant and it said that no server found! :(

problem now seems to be a disappearing NAS server :-<

i see,i was thinking you couldnt share folder from your pc to your media player.

there must be some settings in your synology then.

they can be a pain to set up if you have never used network settings before as i found out.

ok, I think I have it sorted now, thanks mate...was basically a firewall rule in the Synology CP ... even if I can't see the Synology Server under Synology Assistant, I can still map the drives by going into My Network.. seems to be ok now however am now face with another issue...slow read/write speeds... am getting approx 4MB/S write speeds for a large file, over a wireless gigabit LAN! :( ...think I need to start a new thread about this...
