Cannot boot windows except safe mode...

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read this post.

My computer has seemed to struggle to get into windows lately, it would usually take a couple of restarts to get into it from cold. Today, however, the progress bar freezes every single time windows xp is loading. I have gutted the computer, disconnected all the drives and pci devices I can, swapping out each of the two sticks of memory, trying different slots.

It will boot into safe mode fine, and the computer seems to act stable once it's there. System restore doesn't have any effect, when trying to use it in safe mode it simply says it can't, and using it from the f8 menu just results in a frozen progress bar again. I don't know if the underlying hardware problem (whatever that may be) has managed to corrupt windows and stop it from working, is there anything I can do to try and get it working? I'm hoping not to have to do a full reinstall AGAIN (did one a few weeks ago).

Thanks for reading, and for any help - I'm totally desperate.

Sure.

Dual AMD Athlon MP 2800+'s
GB-7dpxdw motherboard
2gb corsair ram (1 stick in atm)
Antec 430w PSU
ATI radeon 9800 (or something), also been using Geforce 5700 ultra.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, setting diagnostic boot mode from msconfig does not help either. I haven't installed any new apps which would be causing this either.

Could try THIS

The system repair function will remove any updates you have previously installed that are not included on the CD. Drivers will also be reverted to their original XP versions, as well as some settings (Including by not limited to network & performance settings). It may be necessary to reactivate your Windows XP as well.
