Cannot connect to 2008 server shares through VPN

Hi,

In the office, all users can access the Server 2008 shares without issue.

When connecting through a standard MS VPN connection an error comes back saying "the network path was not found".

So, if I click Start > Run and type \\myserver I get the above error.

If I click Start > Run and type \\192.168.2.101 (the servers ip address), it connects.

Funny thing is, users in the office can connect quite happily using \\myserver from the run command.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a DNS issue to be honest, is your VPN adapter pointing to the right DNS server?

I've set the DNS server in the TCP/IP properties of the VPN conncetion.

When connected, I can ping via IP, FQDN but not just server,

So, ping 192.168.2.101 = Fine
ping myserver.domain.com = fine
ping myserver = fail

flush your dns cache - ipconfig /flushdns. see if that helps.
