Need some help here please!
Been tearing my hair out for the last couple of hours!

I've just installed vista ultimate 32bit as a dual boot. Installation went without a hitch but i cannot connect to the internet.
I'm on a wired connection to a router so expected internet to be up and running as soon as i installed the network card drivers.
The pc seems to be connected to the network ok but i can't seem to access any web pages.

I've tried disabling windows firewall and have tried the network diagnostic tool. I've also tried wired and wireless with same results-connects to the router with a valid ip address successfully so it's on the network but just doesn't connect to the internet. Also tried running Opera with same results.
I've tried restarting the router and also when i switch back to xp pro it works fine so it's definately something to do with vista.

Any ideas?

Thanks
:)

ping 216.23959.103

if you can ping this (its google) then you've got DNS server problems

if not, you've got connection problems :)

There's an option in the networking setup where the network connection can be configured for "Local and Internet".

I had a problem with my laptop where the connection defaulted to just "Local" and Internet wasn't accessible.

Thanks MrLOL,
I connected to google ok by typing the numbers in.
I had a quick look around for where to change the DNS settings but i couldn't find the option. Could you please tell me where the options are located and recommend me some DNS servers if you can?

Thanks
:)

Your isp will tell you your DNS settings or alternatively point your TCP/IP settings to assign them from your router IP :)

I dont see how that could be the problem, the DNS settings will be in the DHCP information used to get the IP and gateway.

what else can it be when you visit a website by IP but not hostname
