Hi All,

I'm looking to purchase a new laptop but cannot decide which one to get, there are 2 that I have been looking at (links and details below). They are very similar which is why I cannot decide which one to go for.

MSI GP73 Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5, 17.3" FHD 120Hz, I7-8750H
  • 17.3" FHD 120Hz 1920x1080
  • Intel Core I7 8750H
  • Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5
  • 128GB SSD
  • 1TB (SATA) 7200rpm
  • 16GB 2400MHz DDR4

ASUS ROG GL702ZC AMD RX 580 4GB, 17.3" FHD IPS Freesync, AMD 8-Core Ryzen 7 1700

  • 17.3" HD IPS Freesync 1920x1080
  • 8-Core Ryzen 7 1700
  • AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB GDDR5
  • 256GB M.2 SSD
  • 1TB HDD
  • 16GB 2400MHz DDR4

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't really say what the Asus is like, however I have an MSI laptop with the 120Hz TA FHD screen and I personlly find the screen brilliant, the 7700HQ is powerful enough and that one has more power and possibly overclocking potential? Not sure on that one though, I have a GTX1070 in mine but I previously had one with a 1060 3GB and that ran everything I threw at it, GTA V on pretty much all maxed. So I'd say that's a good buy. But then again the Ryzen probably offers more CPU power and it is a bit cheaper, I believe the RX580 is of similar performance to the GTX1060. So it's a hard call but.

As to if the recent issues with MSI would bother you is another story.

I'm leaning towards the MSI as I think the screen is better and also the GTX1060 has 6GB of RAM compared to the RX580's 4GB. But then as you say the Ryzen offers slightly more CPU power.

What recent issues are there with MSI? I've just done a quicker Google search but couldn't find anything??

It's related to mis-selling there is a big thread about it, I can understand peoples frustration but it didn't deter me, it probably would if I was one of the people effected and not been able to upgrade my laptop as promised.

I had the Asus ryzen laptop as in the link. It was an absolute beast, very quick and the cpu power is just immense. I only sold it as I want a desktop.

You won't be dissapointed. I had a bash of WoW on it and it performed very good on ultra settings to my surprise.

I've had an msi in the past and I wouldn't ever buy another.

As with the above post, the ASUS has bags of performance at that price point and MSI are not a trusted manufacturer until th class action for mis-selling is resolved.

That MSI will offer a better gaming experience than the Asus you've listed. Though, that doesn't mean it's the best of all the laptops that meet your criteria.

A few hundred quid more and you could get a 1070 with a 7th gen i7 I'd think that'd be a better option actually.

I am in the same boat as you, but I'm leaning towards this.

im also torn between that ASUS or this Gigabyte.

Hi Both,

The SABREPRO15 (with GTX1060, 6GB vRAM) is a very strong shout right now, genuine £1,299 product a couple of weeks ago, and OCUK took in the last of the stock at "special" price to clear them.

Decent end user reviews on OCUK page as well, so don't take my word for it, am slightly biased :-)

Gigabyte SABREPRO15 @ £1,099inc

Happy Shopping :cool::D:cool::eek:
