Hi. I've got broadband with Demon internet, running tomato firmwrae on a WRT54g with a netgear modem. I've never had any issues before, but for the last few days I have no access to hotmail.

If i try to go to www.hotmail.com, it will just hang.

If i try ping it, it is request timed out.

i've tried it on 4 computers, same thign happens.

I've tried disabling all teh firewalls too.

Anyone have any other idea of what I can try?

Code:
C:\Users\michali>nslookup www.hotmail.com
Server: unknown
Address: 192.168.0.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: origin.mail.live.com
Addresses: 64.4.20.186
          64.4.20.174
          64.4.20.169
          64.4.20.184
Aliases: www.hotmail.com
          toplevel.mail.live.com.akadns.net

Can't ring demon right now they'll be closed. But is the above normal for nslookup results? Looks good to me and I get similar resutls using google.com (which works fine) just with differnet addresses obviously.

ok, i've tried flushing dns, changed my dns servers to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 (signed up to Opendns), still doesn't load hotmail from any computer in the house.

I called demon and they treated me like i was stupid obviously, and told me that becuase i'm not using their router they cannot offer more support.

I also tried pinging hotmail directly from my router but I get 100% loss.

any other ideas?

ok i got it working.

Really stupid fix though. At the moment i've got a linksys Wrt54g connected to a Netgear DG834 in Modem only mode.

I was only restarting the linksys and not the netgear.

but i dont; get it. if the modem is connected to the wan port of the router, why would it ever need a restart? surely it's not doing anything else with the packets, just sending them tto the router. and why would it specifically not work with hotmail?
