I've been working hard and I've Decided I want to go back into education. Due to me being a bad lad before I had any idea about where I wanted to go in life. I didn't complete secondary school (literally got thrown out 3 months before end of year 11 without opportunity to take exams, Got As on the Science and Maths exams I managed to take but they count for nothing)

I'm wanting to study Civil Engineering or Energy Engineering with Environmental Management or something else of that nature.

I went to college and got some Level 2 network configure and install (city&guilds) certificates about 3 years ago.

Not even a access course for engineering close enough to Sheffield for me to be able to afford to get too and from and that's if id even be accepted.

What would you do in this situation ?

Can't offer much advise on courses. But years ago now, I was in the same position. Bad lad is a good description. Left school at 13 for various reasons, had no qualifications. Been working for years and doing well money wise, then at 21 decided to make a change. Managed to talk my way onto a BTEC 2 year full time course equivalent to 3 A levels. It was two weeks past the start of the course, and amazingly the head of the collage said if I passed the first round of exams due in two weeks I could stay. Long story short, after much sacrifice and hard work. 6 years later I received a first with honours in Mech Eng.

Don't kid yourself it's hard to catch up and a you'd have to give it your all, but it can be done. I was married with a mortgage, had to commute 5 hours a day to get to uni. Took on some big loans and still had to sell pretty much everything I'd ever bought. But it was worth it, for me at least.

college's and university's are often more lenient with mature students that have relevant work experience

best thing to do would be to go into the relevant colleges/uni's and try and get some information. you want to learn and they want your money , win win

if your in relevant work then id be looking at btec then hnc

Go to College and do the relevant A levels (or whatever they are called in England these days). It's what my Mum has had to do to get into nursing.
