cannot get itunes 10.5 to install

I am trying to install latest itunes but i keep getting this error " A later version of apple software update is already installed on this computer" i removed the old itunes and i still cannot get it to install,I am using windows Vista ,i tried updating itunes before i tried a full install and it just kept coming up with cannot update,so i uninstalled it then tried a new install but now i get the message above

i think you need to uninstall all apple related software in add remove software
i had this with beta itunes, removed everything and it then installed

Look for apple/iTunes reg keys under hklm and hkcu software, also make sure there are no apple components in add / remove program's and if there is an iTunes folder in program files rename it

In control panel there are a few Apple related components, all these need to be removed, you should then be able to install the new iTunes.

If it fails to install, go to your music folder, find iTunes, rename the folder to iTunes.old, then try to re-install again.

i did everything you lot have said,uninstalled loads,it goes further with the install progress then pops up same error,the only thing i am having trouble uninstalling is the apple software update, says there is a problem with this windows insaller package,a program required for this install to complete could not be run,contact support blah blah

managed to get it installed,i had to keep trying to uninstall that apple software updater then suddenly it decided to work
