I currently overclock my Q6600 at 3.4Ghz (426x8) at 1.45 volts in bios. This drops to approx 1.38 under load. My memory comprises 4 x 1024 of Geil 800Mhz running at approx 850 Mhz. CPU heatsink is Noctua NH-12F. Temperatures under full load approx 66-67'C in a warm room with all case fans on minimum.

Out of curiosity I tried for 3.6Ghz (400x9) and could not get it stable (Orthos) even up to 1.55v on the core. Should I try 1.6v or a bit higher or have I hit a wall with my CPU?

TIA

Raise your NB voltage a notch or 2. You are overclocking 4 memory banks which will put a lot of stress on the memory controller.

Is it a B3 or GO stepping?

You'll be very lucky to get 3.6ghz out of a B3.

I managed to get 3.52ghz out of mine at 1.47v under load (1.525v in BIOS). Any more vcore and the load temps were getting nasty, even under water.

Are you using coretemp to read these temps??

I am using CoreTemp, Everest and Speedfan (+15'C).

I have just been running Orthos at 3.6Ghz 1.575 (1.50) vcore. Temps got to about 72'C after 20 odd minutes when I ended the test. I am happy with this for the moment BUT I will keep a close eye on temps as weather gets warmer.

FSX is really the only CPU intensive software I run so I doubt it will ever get stressed to the extent of Orthos.

If I have any probs I will revert to 3.4 as this has given me no problems over the last 6 months or so.

I think i may have to look into lapping my Tuniq, as my Q6600 is currently at 71 71 63 65 with 1.35v in BIOS (1.312 in CPU-z) with Prime95 running small fft's. Overclocked at the moment to 3.42GHz, wouldnt mind higher, but need to keep an eye on temps.

Off out in a bit so will leave it running to see where i am from there.
