Cannot Get Wireless Connection After Reset

Hi,
I set up my neighbour’s wireless connection a few years ago and it has been working fine. While trying to set up an iPod she pressed the reset button on the router and has now lost the connection. She only has one desktop computer and is using it wirelessly as it is in another room from the telephone socket. She has a Netgear DG834G V3 router and is running XP SP3 with a wireless adaptor.

I have moved the desktop to the router, connected the Ethernet cable and tried to set it up again to no avail and I cannot remember how I did it last time. When I try to use the setup wizard in XP I cannot get past the section where you have to plug the flash card into the router as the router has no USB port and when I make the manual selection I get an error message. I have tried going into the router and setting it up manually but still cannot get connected. The wireless window says “connected” and the “disconnect” button at the bottom is available, but it also says “not connected”. Could this be because it is set to connect automatically, but is using the old password, which my neighbour has forgotten?

I would appreciate a step by step guide to clear the current wireless settings in the router set up the router manually then delete the old wireless connection from XP and reconnect. If the router is set up manually I don’t believe I need the XP wizard. I should be able to search and find the connection then enter the passkey from the router and set it to connect automatically.

Any help would be appreciated.
Axel
