cannot play avi file

Hi,
I having trouble playing a .avi on my macbook. the link to the file is found in the thread:

i have tried vlc player, have downloaded divx but it still doesnt work. have tried the file on my windows pc and it works fine.
when i do play it in vlc it crashes, i have to force quit it.

can anyone help me?

The DivX codec has problems with a lot of XVids. I've got 3ivx installed which processes the video ok, but has problems with sound, and the standard DivX codec installed that handles the audio

Sounds complicated, but shove 3ivx on too and you hopefully will be ok:

Strange, I can play the file fine on my iMac with no problems at all and I don't a 3ivx codec installed

Well i've only tried playing it in Safari do far, i'm in the process of downloading it to see what happens then, will let you know

Right, finished downloading. It doesn't play in QuickTime, but plays with no problems in VLC. Try downloading the latest nightly build from here as that's what i'm using
