Cannot play C&C Tiberium Wars on Windows 7? Any help?

Hi,

Just built a new PC, using the Windows 7 beta, and have just loaded C&C Tiberium wars and found it does not work.

Using AGP Hotfix 9.1 drivers and an HIS AGP 3850. Had no such problems with XP in my other PC, and the game is Vista certified?

Any ideas?

Telling us exactly what constitutes "it does not work" would help.

As I loaded the disc and got some dll error?

This is the message I get,

cnc3game.dat - Bad Image

C:\Windows\system32\d3dx9_29.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using teh original installation media or contact your system administrator or teh software vendor for support.

Is it not in the 'Right click > Properties' on the shortcut anymore? (I've not checked in Win7).

Hmm, yes I get that with C&C decade, but I can only play Generals?

Run in compatibility mode for XP.

Yes I am trying that, but only getting to play Generals and zero hour?

Still cannot find any way to do a compatibility switch on Tiberium wars though?

OK,

I sorted this out, I downloaded DirectX 9 into a folder on the desktop, I then opened up the C/Windows/System 32 folder and located the above mentioned d3dx9_29.dll file.

I tried extracting that same file from within the cab directory of the DirectX 9 folder I put on the desktop, but W7 would not let me copy or extract from that folder to the system 32 folder.

So I then copied the good d3dx9_29dll file from the desktop folder containing the DX9 I downloaded, and put that in the recycle bin.

From the recycle bin I was able to drag the new d3dx9_29dll file directly into teh open System 32 folder, thereby replacing the corrupt dll file.

Plays sweet now.
