Hi guys, my mum is working on Word 2003 on XP SP3 and tried to save her file to her laptops hard drive, just like normal. But is getting the error "word cannot save due to file permission error" and is losing the file upon this error, having to get it back through the use of a file recovery program. All very technical and time consuming for her as I'm having to describe most of what to do over the phone.

Any ideas why this is happening, she is saving to her laptop hard drive and the only thing which has changed recently is the removal of Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition being replaced with Kaspersky Antivirus 2009 (latest version).

Regards
Nick

I'm not entirely sure its your AV but if it is then you need to set the folder as an exception so that it is not scanned.

Try right clicking in the folder, select new -> Word Document.

Rename it to whatever she needs it to be.
Open it.
Open the recovered document and copy all of the text.
Paste the text in the other newly created document.
Save it.

If you still get the error, then there is some weird file permission thing with that folder. Check permissions on the folder, and as suggested check the antivirus to exclude th e folder.
If you don't get the message, then there is a corruption with the original file.
