His dual core machine folds like a maniac, drastic measures are needed so decided on this baby AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA4800CDBOX) (CP-129-AM) , to give me a little daylight. Should arrive Saturday.

Adding another dual core lappy tomorrow as well, gonna need to find a few more borgs SiriusB my old mucka. ;)

I tried to borg my laptop but for whatever reason it causes it to crash at the welcome screen - so no foldy laptop!

I plan to OC my brother's machine but it is only a 3700+. So in short I can't compete with a 4800+, a dual-core lappy and the rest of your machines :(

Oh well, at least I put the fear of stompage on someone enough for them to buy a new foldy rig :D

Are you using the GUI client or command line for the lappy?

Console version. Not tried the GUI version. I wasn't going to because it would seem my laptop has zero temperature monitoring capability for the CPU.

Not sure I want to risk my lappy overheating!

Set your lappy to run at 80% and you should not have a problem with the GUI

I have been running the GUI for the last few hours and all seems well. It is at 100% while I monitor it - so far the heat output hasn't been much more than usual. I will probably set it to between 50-80% because it can be uncomfortable to have on ones lap after a very short time.

Oh, and I just bagged a 396 pointer :D

Might give you a run for your money before you disappear over the horizon! :p

I've found the GUI runs better on laptops for some reason and my centrino always seems to get 350 - 400 pointers, they do take a few days to complete mind.

I am somewhat annoyed by the complete lack of large WUs lately. Makes it more frustrating when some people seem to get them several times a week! :(

I have 4 clients crunching now and I have had just two WUs that were larger than 120 points.

back when I had upwards of 5 systems here (seems so long ago, then I got a 'leccy bill!) I had a few weeks during the Dunc race of 41/120 pointers that seemed to give me about 1ppd

85% of my 20 threads here are running 36/41/120 pointer the rest have amber +200 pointers (but they give worse ppd that the others :( ) so think yourself lucky more points doesn't mean more ppd.

That said i still know what we mean - just check the varation in points per WU for the members above and below you. (or better still those that started at the same time)

37 Babyface_UK 113,860 535 ppwu=212 (06/06)
42 magman 95,051 817 ppwu=116 (06/06)
44 bam0 87,852 741 ppwu=118 (06/06)
45 lemonman 85,607 782 ppwu=109 (06/06) (10% shortfall)

We all started within two weeks of each other and have simular numbers (bar Babyface but he's also crunching beta's and a lucky ... before that :p )

Now if we look at you, SB and the active members above and below

105 sagaboy2 24,527 184 ppwu=133 (2005)
106 Elston 24,219 205 ppwu=118 (04/06)
110 Jonathan_ 21,909 122 ppwu=179 (2005)
116 2bullish 20,548 102 ppwu=201 (04/06)
117 SiriusB_ 20,034 203 ppwu=98 (06/06) (10% below me)
123 Vaz 19,284 1,356 ppwu=14 (2005)
124 Neil 16,967 91 ppwu=186 (04/06) restarted figs at this date

when conpared to those around you it looks like your getting a bum deal, but incomparison to 'the four' ;) your only 10% off the same bum deal as me. :D

I'm running one client at the moment with no flags at all and it's had two 600 pointers in a row - my other machines which have -advmethods were getting 120s all the time

Try taking the -advmethods off and see what you get

It's all about changing the flags and taking the chance - tis the art of folding young padawan :p

I'm changing my flags now......

edit ... done
good luck :)

before the 600 pointers I had a p1809 Amber but even that was giving up to 160ppd on my XP1700@2035MHz though I have heard the ol' Intels don't like them as much - the same rig is getting around 200ppd with the 600 pointers

Already done that once and it didn't make a blind bit of difference :p

Just put the advmethods flag back on one client thats about to finish so lets see if it works this time...
