Thinking of getting the canon 17-40 L series as my walk around lens for my 600D.
I was thinking that would give 27-64 and I would keep this on most of the time to be honest.
Would the 40 end be ok for portraits ? And would f4 get fustrating in low light ?

Good choice or not @ £579

F4 isn't bad. My current walk about is an 24-105 F4, but on FF, so noise performance is slightly better.

Personally I think 27-64 may be a bit short for portraits, but, that said, I've seen some people throw out the rule book and do some great portraits with a 35. Even so, I'd probably add a 50 1.8 to your purchase as it's all of about £80 atm, and would give you an 80mm which would be solid for portraits.

It is my walkabout lens (I'm pretty sure it hasn't left my camera since buying it!) and I love the results I get from it. It would be nice if it had an extra stop but is not essential.

I thought it may be a bit short and make portraits unflattering. I have the 50mm 1.8 but was hoping the 27-64 would cover that as well and I could just keep that lens on. And reduce what I lug around with me.

Thats how I was seeing it; that it probably, wouldn't leave my camera once on. How do you find portraits with it ?

Any editing in photoshop was probably just straightening them out (I'm terrible for doing wonky shots!)

Edit: Grrr. Hosting them has taken the Exif out...

Thanks for the examples really appreciated ;)
Some nice images can't let the other half see the baby shot she will be off on one, and I will be selling before even getting another lens

Was this image with flash gun ?

Looks like I bounced the flash from my 430ex ii off the ceiling.
