Hi All,

My 17-85mm seems to have developed a bit of an issue when trying to autofocus over distance. It will autofocus fine at close range (a few meters) but anything further and it will just hunt for ages and not settle. This only begun weekend before last in the middle of a shoot.

I have had the lens for about 6 odd years now so it might just be its time, but is this something that can be fixed? I do not know Canons pricing for such a repair but I guess it would be worth while looking at other lenses to replace it for how much it may cost me?

If it is broken and repair is not worth it, can anyone recommend me a replacement? I am using a Canon 30D and my other lenses are the 10-22mm and 90-300mm if it helps.

Thanks

EDIT: I should add that I have tried the lens on another body and the problem still exists

Oh what fun.

Well I am going to get some quotes for a repair, but I may just save towards another lens. Any recommendations? I wouldnt mind looking at an L, maybe the 24-105? I have a feel I would be wasting it on my 30D though.
