I know some here will be interested in this, although some won't be because it's Kai and DREV (blasphemy!)

I want one! (the 35 L that is).

Kai's videos are always awesome IMO, it's refreshing to watch his reviews as quite frankly he doesn't give a **** about things that other reviewers spend ages going on about (MTF charts, for example). He just gets on with it and provides entertainment in the process :p

Also I love the focus lock sound in the newer drtv videos that sensor out swears :p

As a regular viewer and soemone watching already with an understanding of the product being shown I guess it makes sense but as a person watching with no idea whatsoever I can see how it could be misunderstood.

Kai is the Clarkson of the camera world, Lok is obviously May and Alamby is....well...LMAO!

I think it just locks the barrel for when walking with the camera lens facing down as found on some Tamrons. My 28-75 XR-Di had a lock button!

OMG, Will that Tamron work on the full frame? I loved that lens so much :p

Did you get a dodgy sample? The only issue I found was the noisy AF but other than that it was sharper than my then 50mm 1.8 at f2.8 and f4, it got seriously close to subjects and resolved serious detail, even though it had no USM class AF motors or IF it did focus fast.

It was also cheap!

Would love to go there one day but my Japanese is limited to choice words and phrases from various anime/manga!

I've had two now, and they've been the same. Maybe the Tamron gods hate me! It is decently sharp in the centre, I just don't find the colours or contrast very good. My old Canon 24-70 I would hardly have to do much PP, the Tamron I have to tweak every shot.

Granted I still had the 350D and 40D back then and my processing experience was still new but I do recall wowing at the IQ of my sample!

He just doesn't give a hoot about anything or anyone, I like that! It means I can trust his opinion a bit more because of his negative bias!

Plus entertainments :p

QC has taken a dive in recent years and yeah I agree, the price of such lenses isn't worth what you get in terms of optical performance because that performance should be 100% out of the box on 99% of samples IMO.

You expect that kind of thing from a non premium lens.

I think Sigma are on the right track in this regard now with the new lenses that come with user calibration adapters so you can tailor a lens to your camera and not have to send it away to be fixed.

One review stated that the adapter would allow you to calibrate and adjust focus settings so I imagine as long as the software isn't nerfed that we will be able to customise how quick we want the lenses to focus and other things.

Perhaps a modding community could emerge whereby "custom firmwares" are uploaded and shared around to do various things.

My mouth is watering already and it's the only real reason I've held off the 85mm 1.4 SIgma purchase as I really really want to get the 35mm then possibly sell the 50mm 1.4 and use that to buy the 85.

I agree, I don't think I'd be able to handle a mid zoom any more for daily use.

Primes forever!

You're forgetting shallow DOF is how it all started to begin with. Manual film cameras of their day had bokeh even on landscape photos that was far nicer to the ye than any modern lens.

I don't think it's over used but I accept that some people seem to consider the lack of focus on more areas of a frame instead of just the subject a bad thing which it really isn't. Edit* It's on the same lines as the talk on TP at the moemnt where one guy shoots with creative comps and bokeh so you get the usual "that's not standard I don't like it" brigade. That's getting old^^

The benefits of shooting wide open outweigh the benefits of what you might or might not like :p

But you're forgetting again that even if you feel that someone's image might have looked nicer with a bit looser dof, that's not what they wanted.

I can't speak for everyone but the guys I personally know and even myself, we tend to think about what we want in focus before we even look at it through the viewfinder.

Given your thoughts on this, you could say that people with zooms are even lazier because they just stand their twisting their wrists - Which we all know isn't the case for most people!

Exactly.

Bokeh laden lenses have been in use for decades but only the last few years have we seen people tag onto iconic lenses like the nifty and get creative with dof.

I've had the nifty since the 300D, my first dslr and in fact it was given to me free by a member of this very forum!

Having also had fast zooms since then both good and bad I still feel that a fast prime is where it's at.

Those that use it incorrectly though will figure it out and their style will mature. Just like when people use hdr the first time, the results are questionable and waxy but it doesn't take long before self critique steps in and things work themselves out.

As said already, this is no reason to hate the trend as it just sounds a bit whiney!
