Sorry, I keep asking questions about the camera, I can't find any info on this though, looking through the motion comp thread I really like the long exposure shots of stars, which seem to be over almost 30mins, Is this done on a bulb setting? And if so would the 400d be capable of exposures that long? I know my old camera had a max of 30secs. Just wondering if im going to be able to do anything like that?

Thanks

Yes, you use bulb mode. Theoretically, it will expose until your finger gets sore or you run out of batteries. You'll need a remote shutter release to keep the shutter locked open though :)

Yer the 400d can do bulb exposures so you can take an exposure for as long as your battery will hold up. You're gonna want a remote shutter release which you can tape shut so you can do something else rather than pressing a button for hours on end though :)

You can buy a remote switch with a timer or a manual version to control the bulb option. As with bulb you shoot for as long as the shutter is open and a remote switch is easier than holding the button on the camera down for that time.

For a 30 min exposure, I'm told that you really need a automated star tracker, which will pan your camera and thus take account of the earth spinning in relationship to the target stars. I have no idea of costs.

You can use the software provided with the camera to do this...the remote control one, as far as I'm waware you can do 30min exposures, just need your pc near a window! :p
