Thinking about picking one up, has anyone else had experience with it? It would be used with a 450D for portraits.

Thanks, i'm not exactly sure what full body means but i'll have a look at those that you have mentioned.Because they've still got the f1.2 if speed is the ultimate goal. I just don't see them keeping such a line up 50mm lenses and if they introduce a stabilised 50mm then I see the 1.4 as the easy one to lose. This is just my guess though.
If you're on a crop body then 50mm is likely too long for social occasions. Ray is using his on a full frame body which is a 'standard' perspective whereas it'll be closer to 80mm on a crop body which is quite long. Good for portraits but a bit rubbish for groups or close quarters candids.
You may want to consider the Canon 28mm 1.8, Sigma 30mm 1.4 or the other Canon/Sigma 35mm lenses.
This sounds great (and the price right too), but if my 450D is a crop body will that mean that I won't get shots like you did above?Erm, I think the going rate is around £200? I am not sure, may be 10% less to get it sold. I got it around 2007 I recall, I sold off all my EF-S lenses and began building towards EF lens only and it was the first lens that I got. I had it serviced at Canon at Elstree last summer at the cost of £195(!), have the receipt still so the lens is in tip top shape, still have the box and hood (although it has some scuffs on the hood), will come with a Hoya pro-1 UV filter).
I'll list it in MM soon as the Sigma gets a release date, along with my 85/1.8, I've not used that since I got my 85L.
Hmm, not sure that that would 100% work then, might be worth going for something like the 25 or 30 mm lenses. Although for the price I still might be tempted. I'll have to keep an eye on the MM. Thanks for all your help! You would need to stand back another 4/5 ft or so to get the same-ish shot.
