Canon 50MM help

I have a mark II and certainly wouldn't say its built shabby :) For the price its awesome.

It's just a sharp and fast lens, traditionally it was not used for portrait photograph at all. Only because of Digital and it's 1.6X crop that people use it for portrait because it turns it into an 80mm lens. Portrait photography should be done at around 100mm really.

But because the lens is cheap, sharp, and fast (1.8). It is very versatile, it is also light, and with the lens set back a bit, you don't really need a lens hood either.

I am thinking of trying this lens out soon at my swimming club for around the poolside action shots of swimmers, going to be really interested to see how it fairs.

Im getting delivered the 50mm 1.8 coming in the post soon. Going to be taking some night club shots of a friend of mine who does dj'ing. i was advised that this is a good lense for low light and the f rating is really good.

Tbh the 50mm 1.4 was way out of my price range hence the purchase of the 1.8.
i couldnt really see much diiference between the two on a review a looked at but going on the price there must be?

Being an effective focal length of 85mm on a 1.6x crop, it's not.
I'd disagree with that to an extent.

Yes it's customary to use a wideangle for landscape but you can get great results using long telephotos as well. It depends on the subject as much as anything.
