Right, i currently use a battery grip, i've tested this WITH and WITHOUT the battery grip.

If the battery is in, and i flick the switch to on (doesnt matter if its with grip or not, same outcome) the camera does NOT turn on.

HOWEVER, if i turn the switch to on, pull out the battery and then insert it powers on, after 30 secs it goes into standby (standard) but no buttons will bring it out of sleep.

If i remove the lens fully, it will turn on and off as needs be, works perfect as soon as lens is inserted... Same behavior as above!

Really struggling to work this one out?

HELP ME OCUK!

Does this occur only with one lens, do you have other lenses that work OK with the camera?

Hopefully it is just a lens issue (if the connections are screwed up the camera might switch off or give error 999 etc.) otherwise you likely have to send your camera off for repair.

You could just try cleaning the gold contacts on camera and lens(es).
When I had a 600D I found sometimes just a small bit of dirt or sweat causes a problem.
Microfiber cloth should do for this.

Its the lens :/

I bought a nifty fifty today and works perfectly, any ideas on repairing old one, its just a kit lens?

Guess you could check with a repair centre as to the cost but I get the feeling it might be cheaper to replace it with another kit lens from elsewhere. Failing that, it's probably wiser to put the money towards an upgrade instead if that's within budget.
