I currently have a canon 400d with a few lenses. Best ones I have are the 50mm 1.8 and the 10-20mm sigma. I also have a speedlite flash.

The body is feeling a bit dated now and I fancy an upgrade. My plan is to get a 60D keep most of my lenses and then perhaps give my 400d and kit lens to my old man for christmas. I do have a good HD camcorder but having the ability to record HD from the SLR is also a bonus. Liveview will also be good if I want someone whos used to point and shoot cameras to take a picture.

Will the 60D offer a fair improvement over the 400d (I know high iso pics are supposed to be a lot better).?

Will my existing lenses work fine on the 60D?

Thanks

It will be a extremely decent improvement over your 400D which, let's be fair, isn't exactly a bad camera.

Both lenses should work flawlessly.

There used to be some issues surrounding older Sigma lenses and newer Canon cameras (which necessitated the lenses being 're-chipped') but that's all in the past.

I thought so but wanted to double check before pursuading the missus to contribute for my birthday and xmas. Thanks for the clarification.

Has anyone else upgraded from the 400d to a 60D?

I went from a 350D to a 7D. So no, but I think the gap is similar.

The flexibility and the quality from the 7D knocks the 350D out of the park.

Thanks. I know the 7D is feels sturdier than the 60D but I agree that compared to the 400D the upgrade should well be worth it. Think I'll order over the weekend then.

That flip-out video screen on the 60D is a massive selling point over the 7D if that's your kind of thing. I definitely prefer the way the 7D handles, but the 60D is a cracker all the same.
