Interesting breakthrough considering the hurdles presented by recording that amount of data. According to Canon:

Canon said the sensor is sensitive enough to read lettering on the side of an aircraft 18km (11.1 miles) away

Definitely got some interesting uses and though this particular sensor won't be in any consumer level cameras I'd presume the technology and innovation behind it might at some point in the future.
