Hi all,

I've decided that I want to make a move to Canon from Sony so that I can invest more into my equipment before I get stuck with Sony. I currently use an A700 with a 16-105 lens and I also own a 70-300 but I don't use that too often. I've decided to shift to Canon but I'm not sure if I should take a leap to full frame or not. I really would like to be able to achieve wider angle shots so I was thinking about picking up a 60D for £550 and buying a 10-22 and a second general walk about lens. I've thought about a 7D but I don't really shoot sport or birds so I don't see many benefits for me (look at my Flickr to see what I like to take). I don't want to go backwards when I move to Canon as my A700 is still a good camera.

I'm also considering a second hand 5d mark ii for around £700 and then getting a 17-40. The other problem I'm having is the rumours around a 70d and a 7d mark ii (possibly full frame). So should I wait? But then I think well if I wait then new bodies will be rumoured and I may as well just move now and if needs be sell it on eBay as the bodies seem to hold their value quite well. The problem with this is If I went the 60d route for the time being hoping for a cheaper full frame as I really don't like the layout of the mark ii and would ever envy the mark iii I may be stuck with a 10-22. If this is the case it might be a good idea to go with the 60d and then get the 17-40 sacrifice the UWA for the time being but not lose money on an EF-S lens.

I've spent far too much time contemplating over this and got no where. Anyone's opinion would really help me make a decision.

Thanks

Well there are a couple of 5d ii's on eBay for £500-650 with 1 day left. I can't see them going much above the £850 mark.

Edit: just checked sold listings and it seems they go for £1100 so you are spot on!

Well my budget isn't set in stone and if an extra couple of hundred pounds fills my needs then I'm willing to spend it. I'd say I'm willing to spend around £1200, possibly stretching £1500 or slightly more.

Personally I'm not sure I need full frame. I probably take no more than a thousand or two photos a year and after reading this thread: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=913638&highlight=jacobsen full frame isn't too important. From reading over the last couple of days lenses seem to be far more important.

What would you recommend if my budget was sub £1000? I don't think the 7d is worth the extra money over the 60d. But then I could only afford one decent lens and I wouldn't want to just have the 10-22.

No I'm not set on Canon, I don't mind Nikon - I guess I've always wanted a Canon. I used to use a compact Canon and I guess that's what really got me into photography. I think I'm going to go into a shop and just have a feel of all the cameras with a few lenses. That should help me make up my mind.

Any particular reason your set on Canon?
If your after FF, then I'd easily take a D700 over a 5D except for a few special circumstances.
If your after a crop, then I'd easily take a D7000 over a 7D except for a few special circumstances.

However I wouldn't actually recommend buying now. If the D600 materialises and the prices rumoured, then it will offer allot more camera for the money compared to a 5Dii, and will likely outshine a D700 in terms of sensor tech, all while being cheaper.

Can i ask why you would take a D700 over a 5d ii?
