Going to get this lens at some point this week if i have the time. I read a few reviews on this and it seems to be a good walk about lens for the price (which is what i am after). Just wondering what everyone opinion on this is, is there a better or just as good lens for the same price or even less (less is always better :p ) Getting a new walk about lens to replace the average kit lens with the 350D.

You'll struggle to find anyone who has a bad word to say about it. There are very few zoom lenses which can offer the same sharpness and colour rendition across the full aperture range. It really has been thought out well, it works the "wrong way" for a zoom lens in that it gets longer as the focal length reduces. So what's the big deal with that? It means that the lens hood can be attached to the main body of the lens rather than the moving part so a) the telescoping section is protected from the elements to a certain extent and b) the hood can be small and unobtrusive for wide angle shots but also be deeper when at the telephoto end.

Oh and on a 350D it'll dwarf the body :D

Well i have the battery grip, so that makes a little bigger :p But even so i dont want comments on the size of the 350D, i know what its like and find the size just nice.

The only negative point i've seen (other than the price) is that on a reduced frame camera like the 350D it's not very wide about the equivelent of 39-112mm.

Ok i am being slow here, wjat do you mean by reduced frame?
