Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 II & Canon EF 55-200mm F/4.5-5.6 II USM?

If you don't think you will need anything under 50mm then sure. I would be after something a bit wider myself but it depends what kind of photography you want to do. What kind of thing are you interested in?

I presume you allready have the standard kit 18-55mm?

The new 55-250mm IS lens is far superior to the one you mentioned. 50mm F1.8 a definate purchase :)

im getting the 2nd lens for 89 pounds brand new off a chap in sheffield, good price i think? bit of a budget at the moment,

im very into much general atmosphere shots, landscapes, buildings, and i like close ups ( i know this means a macro lens, serious saving for that) im very new to this, i do indeed have the 18-55 kit lens.

when you say second lens which do you mean? The 50mm 1.8 is £69 from my local camera shop. If you mean the zoom then it does seem like a bargain.

As for macro, if you want a really cheap solution now, then i can reccomend getting an M42 50mm lens + M42 Extensions tubes + M42-EOS adaptor. Total about £20. Obviously it will be manual focus and manual apeture control though.

This is also the case if you want cheap quality tele lens. I have not bothered with getting a modern cheap tele like the 55-200 you mention because they are slow and not very good quality. Instead I have an M42 Carl Zeiss Jenna DDR 135mm F3.5 which is excellent and cost £30. Sharp wide open and built like a very solid thing... Obviously it doesn't zoom, autofocus or autoapeture, but i prefer quality over these things...

Sigma 70-300 APO -- A stupidly popular starter telephoto lens, even does macro.

Can be had for around £100ish
