Hi,

I have a Canon Powershot A80 which i have been really pleased with, especially with being able to just 'point & shoot', and the picture being really clear etc.

But I see their are some offers around with regards to the EOS-350D and wonder if I should upgrade.

Will this camera be as easy to use as my current one? and what imporvements will I notice?

Thanks

Robert

I went from a A70 --> A80 --> 300D and the last jump was quite a big one, both in terms of IQ, and what you can gleam out of Raw files to speed improvements, so yes its a very nice step up. Still keep the A80 for the days when a dSLR is too much.

Ahh.. just re-read your post (oops) if its PointnShoot Auto your looking for then.. although the 350D would cater for that aswell I think dSLR's are a bit overkill if you're never thinking of getting into the manual side of things (Even ISO).

If you're really wanting to take it up, go for it, if not then don't. I went from a Powershot s60 > 300D because I like seeing focus and composition without having to peer at a small screen.

I spent £320 on a 300D and I have had ~4300 pics since September last year so it's really been used a great deal and I've loved it - it has really made me improve too.

Budget for lenses, you'll need to invest in some decent glass.

If you like the ability to point and shoot don't get a 350D. Its features will be wasted on you and it only really comes into its own when you buy expensive lenses. If you were looking to get into photography and learn how to get the best out of a 350D then yer buy it. If not maybe look at something like the Canon Powershot IS 2 or 3. Basically the same setup as your A80 but with more megapixels, a better lens and zoom, and generally a decent step up for a point and shoot user.

i've spent about a grand on my 350D and glass, nothing too expensive, most of it second hand. not even touched a lens over 200 notes.
if you don't want to spend that money then lumix fz30 or the S3 IS would get my vote

the canon 350d is a great camera in my opinion. if your looking for a point and shoot it will do that but will be wasted.

if however you want the creative functions that a digital slr will give you then its definately worth it.

i had a bridge style camera first though (fuji s602z) before i got a digital slr which prepared me well with its manual features.

if your serious about photography then definately get one!
