Hey guys,

I've got a trusty Canon IP4200 printer and its run out of ink.
Does anyone know if compatible cartridges are available that work 100% yet? (Don't want to have to swap cartridge chips, don't want to lose ink status reporting etc.)

I would normally go ahead and buy some genuine Canon inks, but for a full complement of 5 ink tanks you're looking at around £50, when for a couple of extra quid you can get a whole new Canon printer! But i don't want to jump the gun just yet, so I thought I'd check with you guys.

Kind Regards :)

Actually seems there an even newer printer, the Canon IP4300, so it makes it even more tempting to just splash out the extra quid!

So before I do guys.. has anyone seen any working Canon compatibles?

Thanks :)

The only compatables I have seen involve messing around with chips. Ink monitoring does not work and if you let a cartridge run dry you burn the print nozzles and ruin the printer. I suspect that will always be the case because if somebody manufactures cartridges with chips Canon will take legal action. I have the 4300 and it uses the same cartridges as the 4200 and I pay about £40 for a set of Canon cartridges.

I agree I work for a major ink cartridge re-fill shop and we have just got rid of our remans for these cartridges due to the fact of having to take off the chip. Does anyone no if the chips are date sensitive at all?

Although it's true that you can buy a new printer for about the same cost as a set of ink, you do have to ask if it will give you the same qualityh of print.
I own a Canon Pixma 5200R.
A complete set of cats isn't cheap - however the print quality is so good I'm certainly happy to pay that bit extra.
I'm also sure that a fair amount of that "print quality" is down to the Canon ink - not all ink is made equal.

But mate that's what i'm saying, for the price of a full set of genuine Canon ink for my Canon IP4200 printer, i can just buy another Canon IP4200 printer (or its updated equivalent, the IP4300) which come with a full complement of ink tanks!

Ludicrous but true!
