Hi,

I was wonder if I should buy an adapter for my NEX 5R to mount Canon lens to the E mount on the NEX 5R

I know Sigma and Metabones make EF to E mount adapter and I was wondering if they are any good ! ?

Do you AF properly, can you use all the AF points, does the sandwich adapter affect f stops or focal length crop factor of the lens ! /

Hi there, I used to have an a6k before I moved to Fuji. It all really depends on the adapter. I believe the meta bones ones are the most expensive however they keep the af and have corrective glass to ensure the optics are not compromised, I can’t comment as I refused to pay that much for lens adapter.
I ended up selling my lenses, buying some k&f adapters and using manual focus lenses (mostly vintage) the benefit of that is when I changed brand I could just spend $20 on an adapter and use it all again.

In my opinion for the price I would just sell and get a Sony lens.

There may be more help over on the POTN forum (google it)

Hi,

thanks for the info.
I know the metabones is over £300 which is getting towards what I paid for the NEX 5R !
I will look out for a used Mk4 one though as I would like to use my Canon glass for videoing.
My current lens are a 18-55 f3.5 - 5.6 OSS & 70-210 f4.5 - 6.3 OSS lens of which the latter is pretty good.
Sony Karl Ziess and G master lens are like canon L grade price with one just being a little cheaper. So again I will try and buy used ones as and when I see them.
I have looked at buying A6500 which is a great camera, though I will wait till the A6700 comes out as I am hoping it has more of a touch screen usability.

From what I've read, the Sigma MC-11 adapter works well but there's a noticeable difference in AF performance between the A6000 and A6300 so I suspect AF with a NEX5R might be poor. It can't affect the crop factor as it has no glass in it. I bought one to use with my A6300 but haven't bought an EF mount lens to go with it yet.

I am keen to keep my NEX5R as it is a great little mirrorless cera. The new A6000 plus range are just to expensive for me to upgrade to for an APSC sensor. I am hoping in the near future to buy either a really cheap A7 or wait a little longer for a used A7ii. So if i get FE lens and adpater to use on my NEX5R i will be able to also ise on the A7ii.
That is my plan.
Ps. I was at a gig last night and i used my NEX5R in M mode 1/100, f3.5 to 4.5 iso 800 to 1600. I shot in RAW and the photos are not bad as the light was very dim. My main issue was focusing in very low light with NEX5R. With Eos 7D I do have multiple AF ponits to use and I can even spot AF to a high degree when loght drops off. I did not use a flash even though I was at the front. I do have a 16mm f1.8 pancake e mount lens i should have taken which would have given much better results.
Hence my interest in adapters for my NEX5R as I could use some canon prime lens in very low light.
