Have the itch to spend a bit more on my photography set-up. Currently have an entry level old 1000d, with a 50mm f1.8 lens. Mostly used to take pictures of my little one and family get togethers.

Happy to spend around 300 to 400, what would be the best bang per a buck upgrade?
1. New glass, have looked at the 85mm f1.8. Happy to consider alternatives.
2. Contemplating getting a proper flash, though I'm not sure how much this will add to my photography.
3. Have been checking occasionally the MM for a second hand canon body. Though not sure if I'd get more out of new lenses as opposed to a newer body.

All suggestions welcome!

Mostly will be used for pictures of the little one and family/friends. I'll do a bit more research on the lenses mentioned!

Went Park Cameras near Tottenham Court Road. Very impressed with the staff. Tried many lenses, but have whittled it down to either the 28mm F1.8 or 17-55mm F2.8. Probably going to go with the former, and upgrade the body to full frame next year.
