This scanner has always served me well, and if it was rubbish I would certainly use this as an excuse to buy a new scanner but it’s not a wonderful little device if you have one you will know what I mean, but I can’t find any drivers suitable for Vista / XP 64bit a real pain, any help would be very gratefully received.

You don't need to get a new scanner.

I have a Canon Lide 30 / 1240u, which has no support in Vista x64.
I then happened upon an article in Amateur Photographer of all places that mentioned VueScan.

And it works perfectly :D

Thanks for your help It looks promising, does this software have a universal driver in it, because as you know Canon do the scanning programme for windows 64bit but not the driver (a bit pointless I think)

I thought I would update this thread, firstly the VueScan software is no good if you can’t load any drivers which you can’t on a 64bit operating system, so if anyone else has a LiDE 80 unless some cleaver soul designs 64bit drivers it can’t be used with Vista 64bit or XP 64bit.
Canon say they have no plans to release drivers because they don’t have enough technical details available on the LiDE 80 to release them, this I was told today on the phone, in other words we want you to buy a new scanner.

I looked at that VueScan software but then also decided I wanted the scanner to work in other apps, so just bought a Lide 25 for £35.

Also that VueScan guy really needs to not have his app install to C:\VueScan. It's not the 90s any more.

A very valid point about the scanner working in other programs, if the LiDE 80 was a rubbishy bit of kit I would have dropped it in the bin like my old printer and fax modem,
but I must admit it’s looking like I'm flogging a dead horse and I will have to move it on.
Thanks for everyone’s help it is appreciated.
