I have used third party ink on my Canon Pixma IP4300, and as you probably know if you can help, it uses the stupid chips on the cartridges.

The small black cartridge thinks its empty (even though i've replaced it with a new cartridge) and now prints in blue  or not at all according to the nozzle check thing.

Is there a way to turn off monitoring completely, or what can i do to make it use the small black cartidge ?

Thanks for any help :)

sorry, i don't know the answer to your question. but.. erm... your sig... is that a genuine response from somebody? i'm 99% sure it isn't but on the off chance i've missed an opportunity to learn the wisest of "teachings" i've just got to know ;)

Did you change the chips over from the official Canon cartridges to the 3rd party ones?

I have this printer and think it's great. I use Inkrite for the cartridges.

The status checker should make absolutely no difference to how the printer actually prints. So I think something is wrong with how you've replaced the cartridges

For example, mine would say "your ink is out, but if you want to continue printing hold x button for x amount of time." When I did this it just continued as usual

Anyway check your chips m8! Make sure they are the right rotation. If that fails maybe you have some sort of leak? What brand of 3rd party cartridges you using?

Im not sure what you are getting at ? Asking for a thread update ? If so, sorry, no, i've not got anywhere... Might be a dodgy cartridge, it was an ebay cheapy :o

It prints in a deep purpley colour instead of black, which is pi**ing me off

The rest of the cheap carts have been fine, reckon it'd be worth trying another ? I've repeatedly done the check things in printer options, and it intermittently works, sort of

Will try another cartridge in the morning i think

Anyone recommend any brands of replacement cartridges ? Wont get these again methinks  £22 for 2 of each iirc, so cheap enough, assuming they all work

I use a set of cartridges that you can buy on eBay for a total of £9.98.

Fine, I have to use a bit of electrical tape to hold the chips on the cartridges - but no other problems for me.
