Canon PowerShot G1 X large sensor compact preview

Although it is not a G12 replacement it is large when compared with the G12 with a weight of 534g as opposed to 401g. It has a shorter battery life of 250 as opposed to 370 shots. It's certainly not pocket sized. It will be interesting to see the image quality.

Typical...just as I buy my xz-1 this comes out  Any way its much bigger and expensive. Looking forward to reviews

^ Quite a bit bigger :D

With mobile phone cameras getting better and better I can see where manufacturers are going with these, but they really don't meet my definition of compact. At 500g+ and too big to fit into anything but a large coat pocket, I might as well just take the DSLR out.

I think I'd have found it a lot more appealing with a 24-120mm equivalent zoom and I don't see any mention of the OVF's coverage.

500g is nothing really... Whilst my G9 is smaller than this I can easily fit it into my back pocket when walking around (Although I will admit I don't wear this skinny jeans **** so that might be why).

OMFG.

Not interested any more.

Crikey! The cost is ridiculous.

I agree with a lot of what you say it's far to big and expensive to compete in the market section.

Camera phones still have a way to go before they are ready to kill the compact completely the lack of decent optical zoom is the killer for me as soon as someone puts a decent one on a smartphone I'm there.

The "release" price is always bonkers with Canon. They suck in the early adopters or something, and 6 months later it reaches the "true" public price.
