A few weeks ago i decided to pre-order this Canon S3 IS, and ever since Ive been reading reviews, and other pages about DSLR's (namely the Canon 350D or Olympus E500) and been trying to persuade myself to cancel the pre-order and get the SLR.

well tonight i came home thinking, LETS GO for it, lets cancel the pre-order and order the SLR.

However upon opening my emails i got the shipping confirmation of the S3IS!!!! LOL Either way I'm happy, as i was totaly 50/50 on what to do . If i dont like, i will be able to sell it on im sure.

will post some pictures and possible mini review soon :)

Great stuff.

its a good 'bridge' camera to the world of the DSLR anyway. I had an FZ20 which did the same thing for me.

Hope you enjoy it.

i just hope my 1gig crucial card is enough, because they recommend fast cards, and i think this one is only 80x or whatever they call it, vs 133x for the fast cards?

That camera will not be making full use of a 66x card, let alone an 80x one, so as already said you will be fine. :)

The video mode on the S2 will fill a 1gb card up in a matter of minutes, so they do need fast cards, but as has been said a 'fast' card is sufficient.

I used a 60x on my s2 when i had it.

BTW, i didn't know they had been released in this country yet - where is it from (if it is not a competitor).

i cant say where its from, since OCUK sell cameras too :( look at kelkoo or www.canon.co.uk site at offical Etailers(3)?

they are released in may, so it looks like i might get it 3 days early? I dunno, either way its not turned up yet ;)

Give it a good workout for a few days, and if you decide you want to go DSLR, then return the S3 under the Distance Selling Regulations

i will probably get my mate to sell it on Ebay, because i got it from the cheapest site on the net, which is £50-70 cheaper than most other shops, and even below Canons RRP.

I would probably get £400ish (with batteries/1gigSD) if i sold it on, and make a profit

Just ordered me one of these today, currently need something with a better zoom than my Canon A95 has, but I'm not ready yet to go DSLR so I think this will be perfect camera to allow me to progress towards DSLR.

The pictures I'm taking now are improving greatly, I've taken over 1000 in April alone and can see the improvement myself which is very pleasing indeed :D
