So for some unknown reason one of the email accounts I have on thunderbird stopped working and continually wants me to input a new password because it thinks the password is incorrect.

I logged in just fine to my hotmail account through the browser but thunderbird refuses to see the password as valid.

Anyone had a problem like this before ?

If thunderbird is throwing up errors for password either the password, login or settings for the accounts are incorrect.

If the settings are incorrect then the login details won't work and throw up an invalid username/password message.

Isn't hotmail outlook.com now?

I tried recently to sync Thunderbird via imap to an outlook account but it just wouldn't take it at all.

Outlook.com (Hotmail.com) are having massive problems the past week with lots of people complaining about not being able to access emails.

It is related to Microsoft migrating all the Hotmail accounts to Outlook.com infrastructure.

I know as Its affected me, it was fixed yesterday but it has appeared again, I use IMAP on my Hotmail account using Windows Live 2012.

If you've enabled the 2 factor auth then you will also need to generate the application password for the account, so that clients that don't support 2 factor auth can still login.
