Just upgraded to I7 3770k on Gigabyte Z77X-UD5h

My 500gb WD hard drive is not letting me access it

I've installed all drivers that I can tell from the mobo cd, it recognises it there and it shows the usage in disk management but I just can't access the damn thing. It's beat me!

Does your motherboard have a SATA2 only controller? Try it on that. One of my F3s refuses to talk to the SATA3 controller when SATA3 is enabled.

I'll have a look in the bios. The only settings I remember seeing were achi ide (Possible typos!)

It's weird my donkeys years old samsung 80gb drive is working but not my newer WD 500gb, typical lol. The samsung must be coming up to its tenth birthday soon

I've no idea, all I know is they both worked as storage drives in my old system.

Well I removed the two storage drives (samsung 80gb and WD 500gb) and tried to boot and it said invalid boot drive. Even though all that was left was my 80gb Intel SSD with windows on :\

So reinstalled windows on it for second time with both other drives still detached and its all good now. Can now view my WD 500g drive.

Not sure what happened but sorted it in the end! Think any windows installs on this board are going to be done with only one hard drive attached in future!
