Can't access my xpenology/failed

Hi, I have install my xpenology 4.2 on a usb drive which is failed now.

If I build xpenology 4.2 on another usb drive would i still be able to access my files which were saved previous.

I can see now the version 4.3 is can i install this and access my files which were saved uin 4.2


I had 4.2 install on my usb
I'm running hp microserver

All the USB is used for is the initial boot up. The actual OS files are stored on your HDDs so if you recreate the USB stick (DSM 4.2) it will boot up exactly how you had it before.
