Right, my Dads computer has started playing up recently, by not letting him access SOME websites with the "https" protocol, so he can't purcase anything from any site which uses this, and it stops him from being able to access SOME online banking sites. He can order stuff from the place with the free delivery on everything no problem, but all of the others he's tried dan't work. Banks such as Cahoot and Egg work, but CajaMurcia (a Spanish bank) don't. This is really frustrating for him, and me when he makes me try and fix it, so I come here in the hope that you can help.

So far I've tried different browsers (IE and FF), turned off as much of the security that I can see and then turned them all up (to eleven :p ).

The connection goes through a Netgear DG834 Modem/Router, both to his computer and mine, and mine has absolutly no problems, which is why I was looking at his computer for problems.

So, anthing that you can think of which could be the problem would be appreciated

basically the loading bar in the status bar move's very slowly and gets to about a third of the way accross before it stops altogether.

who is your dads ISP?

sometimes changing the MTU size in the netgear router settings to 1400 will help - with AOL there can be probs with secure sites unless the MTU size is lowered

Well, when we got broadband (from AOL) and I installed the router, I knew that I had to change the MTU to a maximum of 1400, and did so. But it seemes that the magical router fairies came and changed it back to default, causing the problem. So thanks for reminding me to check it :)

Just a side note, but because the connection is shared between me and my Dad, I would have thought that I would have had the same problem

Oh well, at least its sorted now
