I'm with Sky broadband, for some reason all of a sudden I can't access any websites without first performing a DNS lookup via the routers diagnostic page and then typing the ip address into the browser, is something wrong with the ISP's DNS servers or something?

Just use googles DNS servers, much easier to remember. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Just so you are aware though, 3rd party DNS servers may be slower than your ISPs. When the google DNS servers first came out I did a test and the Google servers were ahead of openDNS but behind Virgin Media (my ISP).

agreed, it was a smart move of Google to get those IPs. They must have had to pay someone a lot of money (or stock) for those.

OP, sounds like a DNS issue, seeing as the router is ok resolving addresses it is probably a problem with your computer. Set your DNS manually in the TCP/IP properties to Google, openDNS and try skys own DNS servers.

I guess its possible that the DHCP on the router could be handing out the wrong IP for the DNS settings so check that too.

I've had DNS problems since about 4pm, on BT here

Used my phone to find out the opendns IP and set it to that
