Can't afford cat medication anymore...

Hi All,

My cat has been on long term medication for years which costs about £60 a month. Now I've been made redundant I have to cut costs immediately, so I thought I would look online. The cost is literally half! But the vets won't give me my prescription without charging me for it each month, the swines, making all their money back and leaving me saving nothing. Now I don't mind paying for a consultancy, but they are just eeking out what they know is a longterm prescription, which sounds slightly unethical to me! It seems pretty easy nowadays to buy meds online for myself, but I can't seem to find them for my cat. (It's Vidalta for Thyroid and Metacam for arthritis, incidentally). Does anyone know where I could buy these without a prescription, please?

EDIT: I will look after her and can find the money elsewhere if necessary, luckily no need for PDSA etc, family would also help, so please, please no one be concerned for my cat - she leads a spoiled life of luxury! I'd be grateful if a mod could change the thread title to something less upsettingly emotive, such as 'expensive vet prescriptions!'

I found the first one on the second link in Google; if your current vet will not give you a written prescription, go to one that will. Alternatively, tell them you cannot afford their prices, and you will either have to have a written prescription and buy your medication elsewhere, or you'll be forced to let the cat die. Let them choose.

I've been scouring google for over an hour and have yet to find a single outlet that ships without a prescription so may I politely suggest that you may be mistaken, although your help and interest is very much appreciated! What is the addy (if it's ok to give that in the forum?)

Thanks!

google in house pharmacy, they stock Metacam no prescription needed

Damn was getting excited for a second there - great find in as much as it's prescriptionless, tragically the price is even more than my vets charge at £53 a bottle (it's £11.80 online if you provide a prescription, my vets wants £30 for it). Thanks though!

In fact the vets have just rung me back and must have taken pity as they say they are willing to write the prescription for three months at a time, which is a better result. Would still love to find a good online source though!

Edit: Dr. House - (lol good name for this!). Yeah I asked them to extend the prescription as it's diagnosed as a long term illness and they smirked, and said 'thats business'. Pretty much got my blood boiling! A little bit unwilling to try a different med really tho, although kind of you to suggest it :-)

no one panic though, I can find the money to take care of her out of my budget and have family who would always help too, so rest easy all!

Just to reiterate - I will look after her and can find the money elsewhere if necessary, luckily no need for PDSA etc, family would also help, so please, please no one be concerned for my cat - she leads a spoiled life of luxury!

Wow thats really not a nice thing to say. At least they have offers to give you 3 months at a time now but I would be looking for another Vet if I was you.
